Ahhhh, the sheer joy of riding in a fast bunch, taking your turn on the front like a newly formed but well-drilled team; questioning whether your legs will get you to the finish line at such a pace – knowing you’re the only one who can answer that question.
It’s fair to say that we love road racing and Ipswich Cycling Club proudly presents opportunities for bike racers – whether complete novices or seasoned experts – to compete in a range of road race formats. It’s also evident that we’ve been doing it for a while!
Check out our events page and you’ll find:
- Criteriums that are held throughout the year at three main venues; Synergy Park, Willowbank and Nundah. These are typically open to licensed riders from all clubs.
- Road race events on public roads, with our signature event being the Ipswich Open.
- Individual time trial events, both intra-club and open to all licensed riders.
- Our Ipswich Open Kermesse, an opportunity introduced in 2015 that provides the opportunity to road race on a closed circuit at Queensland Raceway.
You like the idea but you’re not quite sure whether it’s for you…
If you’ve been considering bike racing but you’re not sure whether to commit to an annual licence, we have three race memberships available for trial purposes*. The cost of these will be refunded by the club should you then take out a full CA Gold (race) licence. To get hold of a trial membership, drop us an email or just show up at a crit and ask someone at the sign-in desk.
“It’s too early. Always attack as late as you can, but before the others do.“
The Rider, Tim Krabbé
*Conditions apply. Also not available for open race events administered through CQ.
